January 21, 2019Problem Description of Record Type in Salesforce.
Salesforce users/customers have issues with seeing record types on the community page.
This issue is encountered when:
- When a user tries to create a record but is unable to select a record type assigned to them.
- When a user tries to change the record type assigned on an existing record however they can’t select a record type assigned to them.
Solution :

Check if there’s more than one record type assigned under your profile.
In Salesforce Classic
- Go to Setup | Manage Users | Profile
- Select the specific profile.
- Go to ‘Record Type Settings’ related list
- Click Edit on the object which you can’t select a record type.
- Check if there’s another record type added in your profile, if none please add an existing record type or create a record type as needed.
In Lightning Experience
- Navigate to Setup | Users | Profile
- Select the specific profile.
- Go to ‘Record Type Settings’ related list.
- Click Edit on the object which you can’t select a record type.
- Check if there’s another record type added in your profile, if none please add an existing record type or create a record type as needed.

Please check if the ‘Default Record Types’ is set on your personal settings.
In Salesforce Classic
- Click your name | My Settings | Display & Layout | Set Default Record Types
- Deselect the checkbox beside the object you can’t select any record type.
- Click on Save.
Set a Record Type for Salesforce Object in Salesforce Community
If all the page layouts and permissions are assigned correctly and yet there is no record type shown in the community. Then, contact Salesforce customer support and make sure it is enabled from their end.
